At least 15 killed in Hong Kong bus crash
A bus carrying elderly passengers to a religious event in Hong Kong overturned on Thursday, killing at least 15 and injuring 49, police said. The bus driver lost control while approaching a traffic circle in the suburban district of Sai Kung, police told CNN. The bus crashed into a barrier on the side of the road. Windows were smashed, and the roof collapsed. Rescue workers pulled out dozens who were covered with blood and wincing in pain. May Day is a public holiday in Hong Kong. The tour bus was overcrowded and the driver was arrested for dangerous driving, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) reported. The driver apparently told police the brakes failed while he was driving downhill, causing the bus to crash, RTHK reported. |
